 2017 Preview 


       Southside completed the 2016 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Southside just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 6A region seven with a 2-4 region record.

       Since 2010, Southside has gone a combined 45-31. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 6A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Southside has managed to compile a record of 113-156. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 6A and 270th in the AHSAA.

       The Panthers are led by head coach Ron Daugherty who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 33-13 over the past four seasons at Southside. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Daugherty.

       Coach Daugherty's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 33-13 (71.7%).

       The Southside Panthers will play in Class 6A region seven during the 2017 season.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Panthers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. Unfortunately, Southside finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason.

       The Panthers open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Etowah on Friday, August 25 at Jim Glover Field. Last year the Etowah Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 5A region seven. The Blue Devils lost in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs to Mortimer Jordan by a score of 44-30.

       Southside and Etowah have met a total of 44 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 13-30-1 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2016 with Southside winning by a score of 48-33.
